Catholic stewardship in action:
Annual appeal
This weekend (January 16-17), as an Archdiocese we launch our Annual Appeal. Today’s Gospel is a fitting introduction to this archdiocesan wide effort. As a model of authentic stewardship, Jesus was not merely a man of words. He invited His disciples into His very life. He gave Himself totally to them - His time, His goods, and ultimately, His very life. Discipleship is not something any of us undertakes alone, it is a journey through which God, with our cooperation, makes of each of us a “gift” for others.
In the last few days some of you may have received a letter from Cardinal Tobin about the start of the 2021 Annual Appeal of the Archdiocese of Newark. More information about our parish’s involvement in this year’s appeal will be available soon. Now more than ever, your support is needed to fulfill the mission of the Church within our four counties, particularly to assist our needy brothers and sisters. To make a gift online, visit rcan.org/sharing.

During the Coronavirus pandemic, there has been an increase in scam emails, websites and telephone calls preying on people’s fears and uncertainties. A frequent scam is an email that appears to come from the Pastor or parish staff with an urgent request to transfer funds, purchase gift cards or to share financial account information.
This type of scam is prevalent on the Internet and is successful because people trust that the source is legitimate. In most cases, the email is being sent from another account but is made to look like it is coming from the Pastor or staff member.
Some simple steps will prevent you from falling victim to this type of scam: Under no circumstances should the requested action be performed solely based on an email exchange. Emails can easily be spoofed to appear that they are coming from a specific person. Prior to any action, confirm in person or over the phone the specific instructions. Do not simply exchange emails; confirmation needs to occur through another means. If you are confirming the instructions over the phone, validate the authenticity of the number you are dialing to your parish database records. Do not share account number and banking information over email. These scams attempt to create a sense of urgency regarding the need to complete the fund transfer quickly, while also creating the illusion that the Pastor or staff member is not available to do it themselves.
Anyone who feels that they have been the victim of this type of scam is urged to contact their local police department or report the scam to the New Jersey Cyber Crime Unit at (609) 584-5051, ext. 5664 or online at https://www.njsp.org/division/investigations/cyber-crimes.shtml.
Special thanks to Tom Ciotti, who produced the video; Kelly Marsicano and the parish Finance Council, who provided the script; Corinn Somers, who provided the accompanying music, "What If I Was The One"; and JJ Vera, Jr., who assisted with video clips.

Unfortunately, the coronavirus has mutated into various strains,
causing even more problems.
What if our attitudes and behaviors spiraled rapidly into kindness, patience, peace, generosity, gentleness, faithfulness,
self-control and love?
Oh… aren't those some of the fruits
of the Holy Spirit? (Galatians 5:22-23)
We received the Holy Spirit
at Baptism and Confirmation.
They are to be used and not put on
an empty shelf to be forgotten.
Imagine what this world would be like
if there was an explosion of LOVE?
I miss you, I love you all!!
Be Well, Be Safe!!
Welcome to the loving community of Sacred Heart Church. We are a Roman Catholic community located in Haworth and our parishioners come from all over northern Bergen County. For several generations, we have been an important part of the families we serve spiritually. Through the reverent administering of the Sacraments, our religious education, and our many parish ministries and outreach programs, we strive to create a caring bond and sense of community to all our parishioners. It is through these many venues that we bring faith, hope, and charity to all.
If you are new to our parish, we hope the website will serve as an informative introduction to our church and a very warm welcome to Sacred Heart. Our doors are always open!
Please see an important message about a program that each parish is conducting in conjunction with the Archdiocese. The message can be found by clicking "About" and then "Legacy & Giving." Thank you and God bless.
