CONFIRMATION
JUNE, 2024
 

The Confirmation Preparation of 2023-2024 requires that the Eighth Grade students be enrolled in the Religious Education program here at Sacred Heart parish for a minimum of two (2) years in order to receive the Sacrament.

This is in compliance with the Archdiocese of Newark mandate that all Sacramental preparation programs are a two-year process.

The first year of Preparation for the Reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation requires in-person attendance in the Seventh Grade Religious Education program.  There is no homeschooling in the Seventh Grade or in the Eighth Grade program.  In-person attendance is required in both years of preparation.

The Eighth Grade students are required to complete the following throughout the year under the instruction and guidance of the Director of Religious Education, and volunteer Classroom Catechists and Aides:

• Attend Parent/Student Meeting in September, 2023 in preparation for the simple Presentation Ceremony

• Prepare for and participate in Presentation to the Parish Community with at least one (1) parent  in attendance

• Attendance at weekly Sunday Mass, which is to be recorded and signed off on by a Parent

• Attendance at scheduled classes throughout the year

• Prepare, follow-through, and complete Christian Community Service, with a minimum of fifteen (15) hours recorded in an individual record log, which is handed in to the Director of Religious Education when hours are completed

• Work with your parents to choose a Sponsor for your Confirmation

• Attend with Parent/ and Sponsor, if possible, the Parent/Sponsor/Candidate Meeting in     January, 2024 in preparation for Reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation

• Participate in a Small Group Interview with a Staff member of the Sacred Heart Parish in   March, 2024

• Attend the MANDATORY Confirmation Retreat scheduled on Saturday - April 27, 2024 from 10am to 4pm --- this is Mandatory from the Archdiocese of Newark for the Reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation --- One (1) parent is required to attend with the Candidate.

• Attend the Rehearsal on Friday - June 7, 2024 at 6:30pm --- MANDATORY

• Attend the Mass for the Reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation on  Sunday -           June 9, 2024 at the 12pm Mass

These two years --- especially the Eighth Grade year of preparation - are preparing your teen to become a lifelong, faith-filled member of the Roman Catholic Church.  Your guidance and support as parents are an integral part of this preparation.
