Registrations are now being taken for all students attending public schools in Grades 1 to 8.
The Registration Form is located in the brown area to the left,
or please call the church office at 201-387-0080.
All who have been in the program, and have completed work for the past year, are asked to complete the form and send it to the office with your fee for the coming year so we can see who is returning in September. We are now into the middle of the summer, so we would like to have an organized system, ready to start for our Religious Education Program.
This coming Catechetical Year of 2023-2024 promises to be a wonderful and enjoyable year of growth and love in the Lord, for everyone involved!
The program this year will involve meeting on a weekly basis, with a Catechist (teacher) and a Classroom Aide working with our children in classrooms. Classes are held on Sunday mornings from 11am to 12:15pm in the Parish Hall, School Building and Parish Center.
The Religious Education program is in need of volunteer Catechists to share their faith and love of the Catholic Church with the youth of our parish community. At the present time, we are in need of the following:
*A First Grade Catechist
*A Fifth Grade Catechist
*An Eighth Grade Catechist
(there are two 8th grades, and we would like to maintain the classes as
two separate classes so there are no more than 9 students in a class)
*Classroom Aides for First, Fifth, and Sixth Grades to assist the Catechists
Please think and pray about volunteering to assist in these positions, as a means of sharing the gift of Faith and Love with our young parishioners. When you give, you receive!
It is often a life-changing experience --- one that I can personally attest to!
(In addidition, for any parent/caregiver who volunteers as a Catechist in
the Religious Education program, the fees are waived for that year.)
*Please contact me, Ms. Linda Corona, Parish Catechetical Leader,
at 201-387-0080 or via email at [email protected]
HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS
Registration and a calendar of classes are sent to all students in Grades 1 to 8. On the first day of class, grade level books are distributed in their classrooms. Parents are given access codes and information regarding the textbook ahead of time. The books used in Grades 1through 6 are from Loyola Press Finding God, 2021 Edition. Students in Grades 7 and 8 are in the Preparation program for the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Grades 7 and 8 use textbooks in the OSV publications Alive in Christ: Faith Guidebooks.
Attendance is taken at each class session, and student books are checked upon return --- when homework may be assigned. Parents are expected to support their child(ren) in the program when it comes to completing End-Of-Chapter Reviews and Unit Reviews when they are sent home.
Sacramental Program - Grade 2:
Following the 10am Mass and refreshments, at 11:00am all second graders go to their classrooms in the school building --- through the Parish Hall. They meet with their Catechists and Classroom Aides. There are parent meetings scheduled throughout the year in preparation for Reception of the Sacrament of Reconciliation and for the Reception of the Sacrament of First Eucharist. There is a mandatory Retreat for the children and their parents in preparation for receiving First Eucharist. This retreat is held here at Sacred Heart Church and will take place on a Saturday in April, 2024.
First Eucharist will be celebrated on a Sunday in May, 2024.
Grades 7 & 8 – Confirmation:
Following the 10 AM Mass and refreshments at 11:00 AM, the 7th & 8th Grade students ago directly to their classrooms in the Parish Center with their Catechists and Classroom Aides. Catechists and Aides will take them through their themed booklets and Confirmation Material. The 8th Grade students are expected to attend Mass on a weekly basis and the parents/caregivers of 8th Grade students are required to sign the Weekly Mass log for their child(ren). The purpose of this Log is to encourage all families and our 8th Grade Confirmandi to become more aware of their part in attending Sacred Heart Church. Our 8th Grade Students also are required to maintain a Log of their Confirmation Service project throughout the year.
There is a mandatory Retreat for our Confirmandi and their parents here at Sacred Heart Church scheduled for April, 2024.
Confirmation will be celebrated on a Sunday in June, 2024 at the 12pm Mass, with
Bishop Michael Saparito celebrating the Sacrament.
Parents of our Confirmation Candidates are required to attend Parent and Student Meetings as the year progresses in order to prepare our Candidates more thoroughly.
